Dorothy Mae Cole, age 92, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington, KS. She was a homemaker and a retired secretary for the Sumner County Extension Office for over 35 years.
Dorothy Mae (Reige) Cole was born on January 19, 1920 in Kansas City, MO. She was raised in Blackwell, OK and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1938. She has been a resident of Wellington since 1941.
She married Clayton William Cole on April 19, 1941 in Topeka, KS. He preceded her in death in 1965.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events. She was a WHS Crusader and KU Jayhawk sports fan. She was a member of the Slate Valley Club and Alpha Beta Sorority.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lena Kathryn Reige; her husband, Clayton Cole; son-in-law, Robert Goodrum; and grandson, Michael Steven Goodrum.
Survivors include her two daughters, Judith A. Goodrum of Wellington and Janet S. (Jeff) Easterday of Westwood, KS; grandchildren, Jud Easterday of Chicago, IL, Megan Easterday of Mission, KS, Cole Easterday of Lincoln, NE, Lori (Rick) Phelps of Wellington, Amy (William) Mott of Wellington, and Brian Goodrum of Wellington; and great grandchildren, Courtney Goodrum of Baldwin City, KS, Connor and Cade Phelps of Wellington, and Will and Caroline Mott of Wellington.
Graveside Services will be held at Prairie Lawn Cemetery on April 2, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. Chaplain Dan Floyd will officiate.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, April 1, 2012 from 2:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with Friendship Meals. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
