Richard Terry Erickson, age 58, passed away on Saturday evening, January 6, 2007 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. He was the owner of Richard’s Repair.
Richard Terry Erickson was born on September 26, 1948 in Miami, FL to Richard John Erickson and Maybelle (Kindy) Erickson. After graduating from high school, he entered the United States Navy where he served from 1966-1968. He was a Viet Nam Veteran.
In 1969 he moved to Wellington where his Uncle Ray Kindy lived. During the seventies he attended Automotive Training School and worked at Southwest Grease & Oil. He was also employed for several years at McDonald-Ate Motor Co., Champion Motor Homes, and later with Les Jacobs Motors and Horsch Oil Co. In 1994 he opened his own business, Richard’s Repair.
On May 4, 1982 he married Brenda L. Glass in Wellington, KS. They had celebrated 24 years of marriage last year.
He was a member of Wellington Noon Lions Club, American Legion, VFW, and also a member of the A.S.E. Certified Master Auto Technician for over 30 years. He enjoyed watching the “Gold Prospecting Show” and him and his wife, Brenda had recently been to Colorado and Arizona where they prospected for gold. Richard was also known to be very proud of his Southern heritage.
He is preceded in death by his father, Richard John Erickson.
Survivors include his wife Brenda Erickson of Wellington, KS; three sons Coy Patton of Wellington, KS, Shane Morris of Wichita, KS, and Richard J. Erickson of Wellington, KS, two daughters Rebecca Jane Hunt of Meeker, OK and Rachelle J. Erickson of Moody Air Force Base in Valdasta, GA; his mother Maybelle Enterline of Daytona Beach, FL; one brother David Erickson of Wellington, KS; two sisters Patrice Erickson of Las Vegas, NV and Barbara DiMaio of Jacksonville, FL; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Wellington, KS with Reverend Brent Clayton officiating. Interment will be at the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, KS at 2:00 P.M. with Military Graveside Services.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the Wellington Lions Club in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
