Alice Covington, age 101, of Crofton, Nebraska died Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at her residence.

Alice Rachel Covington was born December 1, 1904 in Wellington, Kansas to Edward Thomas and Pearl Annie (Thomas) Worden. She grew up and lived in Wellington her entire life. She graduated from Wellington High School and then attended Emporia Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas graduating in 1929. She taught English and Biology at the Junior & Senior High Schools in Wellington Public Schools and continued to attend post graduate school until her retirement in 1968. She lived in Wellington until moving to Sheridan, Montana which was close to her daughter, Karen. She was currently residing at Lewis and Clark Lake near Crofton, Nebraska with her daughter, Jackie and son-in-law, David Sandstedt. She enjoyed nature, the lake activities, and interactions with friends and family were very important.

Alice enjoyed her life to the fullest. She took her professional school teaching very seriously and always enjoyed hearing from past students. She was a long time Sunday school teacher for the First Christian Church in Wellington and was currently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton, South Dakota. She was an avid gardener, needlecrafter and ceramic hobbyist.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles Thomas and Harold Eli Worden; and one sister, Nancy Enola O'neil

Survivors include two daughters, Jacqueline (David) Sandstedt of Crofton, Nebraska and Karen (Jack) Hutchison of Sheridan, Montana; two grandchildren, Leslie Kay (Tim) Nelson and David Jr. (Kelly) Sandstedt; four great grandchildren, Derick and Serena Nelson, and Cassidy and Caitlin Sandstedt; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be held at Prairie Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at 10:30 A.M. Pastor Sallie Shore of the First Christian Church will officiate.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 from 5:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church of Wellington. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
