Amelia Marie Field, age 77, passed away Friday morning, October 3, 2014 at Main Street Villa in Cheney, KS. She was a homemaker and had also taught elementary school for many years.
Amelia Marie (Slechta) Field was born on January 29, 1937 in Liberal, KS to Joe F. Slechta and Rose Marie (Schlehofer) Slechta. In 1948 the family moved from Liberal to Sumner County near Anson, KS. She graduated from Conway Springs High School in 1956 and from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, KS in 1961.
Amelia married William R. Field on March 27, 1964 in Wellington. He preceded her in death in 1994.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Field; son, Fred Field; and sister, Mary Rose Slechta, M.D.
Survivors include her two daughters, Melba Field of Topeka, KS and Jane Benbenek of Owasso, OK; one grandson, Derek Means of Dominica; and brother, Joe Slechta and his wife Mary of Conway Springs, KS.
Graveside Services will be held at Prairie Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Brent Clayton will officiate.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
