Obituary

Anna Bell Johnson Denny, 101, passed away peacefully January 26, 2022 at the home of her daughter and son in law, Debbie and Johnny Showman of Oklahoma City, OK.

Ann was born February 8, 1920 as the middle child of 7 children to Otis and Constance (Lovellette) Johnson of rural Collinsville, OK.  She was raised on the farm and after graduating high school 1937, worked in the office of the Ruth Oil Co. in Collinsville.  In 1942, the business transferred her to the Wellington, KS office and that's when Kenneth Denny found his true love.  They married February 12, 1943 and were married 64 years as of Kenneth's passing in February 2007.

An avid sports fan, she was also an excellent athlete.  She played basketball in high school as well as in their Wellington driveway in the 1960's.  Many summer evenings were spent playing badminton in the back yard in the 60's and 70's.  At the age of 89, she took up golf.  She loved to garden, read and sew but her biggest passion was fishing.  She never passed on a trip to their fishing lease near Dexter, KS and normally out fished everyone.  Being competitive, she was a big fan of Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, crossword puzzles and computer card games.  She even had her own Facebook page.

Ann was a stay at home mom until 1972 and then began clerical work at the Sumner County Court House and then the local SRS office.  She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Wellington.  After Kenneth's death in 2007, she sold their home and moved to a senior neighborhood in Moore, OK to be close to her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  In 2017, she decided to move in with her oldest daughter, Debbie and son-in-law Johnny and enjoyed living in rural Oklahoma City until her death.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth P. Denny, son Daryl D. Denny, siblings Juanita Stone, Francis Horning, Mayme Evans, Bonnie Lyman, Buck Johnson, and Doyle Johnson; nephews Melvin Johnson and Robert Horning, nieces Judy Johnson and Vicki Cook. Survivors include her daughters Debbie (Johnny) Showman, and Sue Denny; grandchildren Heather Holladay, Shannon (Steven) Braudway; great grandchildren Megan (Gabriel) Holladay Rosales, Zackary Holladay, Dane Braudway, and Emalee Braudway; and first cousin Ginger Lovellette.

Funeral Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 1:00 P.M.  Pastor Darren Johnson will officiate.  Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 30, 2022 from 1:00 – 5:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the Wellington Humane Society in lieu of flowers.

Contributions can be left at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank Phyllis Colbert and Heather Fitser for their home care services as well as hospice care from Michelle and Hazel of Traditions Health for the past year.
