Beatrice "B" Orlean Barry, age 89, devoted wife, mother and grandma, passed away Friday, February 3, 2012, at the Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington, KS. B was a homemaker and lived in the Wellington and Mayfield area most of her life.
Beatrice B Orlean (Tennant) Barry was born on March 31, 1922 in Kay County, OK to Clem and Jessie L. (Chishm) Tennant. She was a graduate of Wellington High School with the Class of 1939.
On December 1, 1938 she married Orville E. "Gene" Barry in Newton, KS. They recently celebrated 73 years of marriage.
B was a volunteer for the Sumner Regional Medical Center Auxiliary for many years and recently received her 3000 hour pin. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a lifetime member of Madison School PTA, United Methodist Women and was Chairman for the Girl Scouts Cookie Drive for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, baking and entertaining.
She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Rex, Don, and Bob; one sister, Phyllis; and one great grandson, Jesse Brand.
Survivors include her loving husband, Gene of Wellington, KS; three daughters, Patricia Frost and her husband Jimmie, Carolyn Heasty, and Shirley Weber and her husband Allen all of Wellington, KS; nine grandchildren, Kim Janney and her husband Steve of Wellington, KS, Scott Frost and his wife Eve of Katy, TX, Shawn Frost and his wife Kathy of Wellington, KS, Cassy Smith and her husband Dan of Wellington, KS, Mary Mericle and her companion Mike Mills of Moline, KS, Gem Watts and her husband Steve of Derby, KS, Becky Blixt and her husband Jeff of Chapman, KS, Amy Brand and her husband John of Wellington, KS and Michelle Schierling and her husband Kevin of Circleville, KS; 21 great grandchildren, Kayla and Nick Janney, Steven, Cheyenne, Charlie and Sarah Frost, Christopher and Joshua Frost, Carley and Taylor Smith, Jessi and Geena Mericle, MaKinzie and Maddie Watts, Brandt and Ethan Blixt, Skylar, Kayma and Olivia Brand, and Anna and Luke Schierling.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church. Chaplain Don Cross will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Osborne Cemetery in Mayfield, KS.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, February 6, 2012 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the Sumner Regional Medical Center Auxiliary in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
