Betty Lou Jones, age 85, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 9, 2010, at the Andover Court Assisted Living in Andover, KS. Betty was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a life long Wellington resident before moving to Andover in 2006.
Betty Lou (McBride) Jones was born on June 24, 1925 in Wellington, KS to Earl McBride and Geneva (Hull) McBride. She was a graduate of Wellington High School with the Class of 1943.
On November 16, 1946 she married Robert Dean Jones in Wichita, KS. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1997.
Betty was a member of the First Christian Church,VFW Auxiliary, Wellington PTA, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, particularly her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; two sons, Michael Jones and Robert Jones, Jr.; one grandchild, Jill Peck; and one great grandchild, Katlyn Willis.
Survivors include her three daughters, Janet (Dave) Garretson of Wichita, KS, Judy (Guy) Leitch of Wellington, KS, and Karilyn (Bob) Lockwood of Peck, KS; one sister, Martha Cole of Winfield, KS; one aunt, Wilma Maharrey of Elk City, OK; 10 grandchildren, Greg Willis, Jeff (Lupe) Willis, Stephanie (Richard) Ohl, Stacie (Ryan) Nottingham, Trey (Shanyn) Jones, Casey Jones, Chase Norton, Linsey Norton, Tyler (Kate) Jones, Kassie (Gray) Kantukule; 18 great grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She had a special fondness for her daughters-in-law, Shannon Jones and Debbie Schneider.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Christian Church. Pastor Don Bryant and Pastor Sallie Shore will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, December 12, 2010 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
