Betty J. Popplewell, age 88, longtime Wellington resident, passed away May 28, 2022 at Wellington Health & Rehab in Wellington. She worked as an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 30 years before retiring.
Betty J. (Yearout) Popplewell was born on July 30, 1933 in Milan, KS to Harry Yearout and Alma L. (Stocking) Yearout. She graduated with the Wellington High School Class of 1951.
She married Jimmie Lee Popplewell on August 1, 1952 in Wellington, KS. They had celebrated 56 years of marriage before Jimmie passed away in March of 2009.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Eastern Stars, VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jimmie Popplewell; three brothers, Bob, Jack and Jim Yearout; great grandson, Dustin Wiley and great granddaughter, Brayden Popplewell.
She is survived by two sons, Greg A. Popplewell and his wife Paula of Blackwell, OK and Charles R. Popplewell of Wellington, KS; two grandsons, Zach Popplewell and his wife Laura of Wellington, KS and Thad Popplewell of Wichita, KS; four great grandchildren, Chaz and his wife Blair, Madi and her husband Robert, Silas and Shelby; six great great grandchildren, Ridge, Rowan, Ryatt and Rynn, Emmett and Easton.
In honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation.
Memorial Services will be held at St, John's Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. in Wellington, KS. Pastor Larry Blue will officiate. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Memorials have been established with the Avenue of Flags and St. John's Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
Frank Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
