Betty Jean Thompson, age 94, lifelong Wellington resident, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Botkin Care & Rehab Center in Wellington. Betty worked as a Nurse Aide at Cedar View Nursing Home for 22 years before she retired in 1980.
Betty Jean (Washburn) Thompson was born on April 18, 1923 in Wellington, KS to Eugene Washburn and Alverta E. (Mumford) Washburn.
Betty married Carl F. Dwyer in 1939. He passed away in 1969. She then married Francis (Mat) Dwyer in 1972. He passed away in 1978. She then married Jack E. Thompson in 1980. He passed away in 2006.
Betty was a faithful member of the First Christian Church for over 80 years and was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Carl Dwyer, Mat Dwyer, and Jack Thompson; son, Rodger Dwyer; daughter, Beverly Griffith; grandson, Christopher Dwyer; great granddaughter, Donna Miles.
Survivors include her daughter, Pam Brosius of Hanford, CA and daughter-in-law, Brenda Dwyer of Wellington; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 24 great great grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held at Prairie Lawn Cemetery on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor James Byers will officiate.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the Christian Women's Fellowship in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
