Betty Jo Weber passed away January 20, 2012 at Spring View Manor in Conway Springs, KS.
Betty Jo (Busch) Weber was born on August 24, 1926 Northeast of Milan, KS on the old homeplace. She was the third child and first daughter born to Henry Leslie and Victoria Francis "Babe" (Hembrow) Busch. When Betty was three years old the family moved one-half mile West to a new home just built by her father. Betty attended the Ryan Township School which was one and one-half miles from home and along with her two big brothers, William H. "Bill" and Robert A. "Bob," walked to school most of the time. When this school was closed she was already going to the Milan school with her two big brothers and younger sister, Anita Mae. Betty graduated from the Milan High School with the Class of 1944. Betty had a passion for helping and caring for sick people. She went to Saint Francis School of Nursing in Wichita and graduated in 1947 as a Registered Nurse. She started working at the Winfield Hospital and in 1949 she met and wed George E. Weber at the Anson Methodist Church at Anson, KS where George was a student minister. To this union a son was born, Henry L. "Butch."
Through the years, Betty worked at several hospitals in Wellington, St. Lukes Hospital, Wellington Hospital and Hatcher Hospital. She also worked at the hospitals in Medicine Lodge, Caldwell, and Harper. She was also the school nurse at Conway Springs, KS and worked for the American Red Cross going to many different blood drives.
When Betty retired from nursing, she spent many hours working at the Chisholm Trail Museum. She would also help her beloved sister at the Argonia Library. When her sister found she had cancer, Betty took care of her at home until she passed away.
Betty was member of the United Methodist Church of Conway Springs, KS and the National Nurses Association.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert A. Busch; and sister, Anita M. Busch.
Survivors include her son, Henry "Butch" and wife Susie and one brother, William H. Busch both of Milan, KS; seven grandchildren, Mandy J., Holly S., Katy R., Jonathan A., Hannah L., Nathan L., and Mary R. Weber; one great granddaughter, Cheyenne E. Weber; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Conway Springs, KS on January 24, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. Pastor Michael Roberts will officiate. Interment will be held at 1:30 P.M. at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved sister, Anita Mae Busch.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, January 23, 2012 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the Chisholm Trail Museum. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
