Beverly Ruth Hitt, age 76, passed away April 15, 2015 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington, KS.
Beverly Ruth (Miller) Hitt was born on February 8, 1939 to Maurice Howard Miller and Emma (Laney) Miller in Wellington, KS. She was a graduate of Wellington High School with the Class of 1957, attended Wichita State University and Kansas State University, and obtained a Counseling Certificate/degree from Kansas State University in 1984.
She was employed as Executive Secretary with R.C.A. Corporation in Kansas City and Purex Corporation, Bellevue, WA until returning to Wellington in 1971. She was Executive Secretary with the First National Bank of Wellington until accepting employment in 1976 with the State of Kansas – Department of Human Resources – Job Service as Counselor/Office Manager for 22 years, taking early retirement in 1997; and USDd#353 four years as Secretary to the Vice Principal, retiring in 2001.
Beverly was recognized as Employee of the Year on two occasions by the Department of Human Resources and named Wellington's "Business Woman of the Year" in 1984.
She was a member of the Executive Secretarial National Organization; member of the International Association of Personnel in Employment Service (IAPES), and served as president of the Wichita Air Capital Chapter. She was involved in many civic organizations such as Soroptimist International and held various offices including president in 1984-85; Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce where she formed the Chamber Ambassadors in 1986. She served on the Chamber Board as Director for three years. She served as president of the Women's Division and continued to be an active member of the Chamber Ambassadors until 2012. She was also a member of the Lions Club; she served on the Wellington community Foundation as secretary and president and served on the founding board of the Community Corrections as secretary. Bev was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi - Xi Iota Nu Chapter where she held many various offices, including president.
Bev shared the love of animals with her daughter, Schelley and husband, Loren. She was the "mommy" to several dachshunds and cats over the years. Because of this sharing, she served as secretary on the founding board of the Wellington Humane Society and continued to work closely with the Society.
The strict upbringing of her Mennonite/Methodist father guided her throughout her early years, during which time she served as Worthy Advisor of Rainbow, and was a life member of the Order of the Cross; she was also a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Wellington.
He father's love of music encouraged Bev's involvement in music throughout her earlier years, where she performed in piano, voice and cello. She and her father also sang in the choir of the First United Methodist Church in Wellington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Schelley R. Scamman; husband, Loren W. Hitt; and brother, Richard M. Miller.
Survivors include her husband, George C. Hitt; Ellis F. Hitt and wife, Beverly; Marjorie Hitt Gulermovich; Todd Hitt and wife, Patty; Dana Hitt and wife, Becky; R. Michael Miller and wife, Carolyn; Ross H. Miller and wife, Marianne; Gary Kyle and wife, Linda; Susan Miller-Hackett and husband, Frank; Sarah Anne Miller; Rachael Hitt; Lauren Hitt; David Kyle, Michael Kyle; and Michael Anthony Miller.
Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Wellington. Pastor Brent Clayton will officiate. There will be a private family burial.
Cremation has taken place. The register book will be available at the funeral home for friends to come by and sign on Friday, April 17, 2015 and Monday, April 20, 2015 during office hours from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Memorials have been established with the Wellington Humane Society and the Wellington Community Foundation – G.E.D. Program in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
