Obituary

Brenda Lee Ewing, age 53, longtime Wellington resident, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She worked as a teller at Security State Bank for over 20 years.

Brenda Lee (Balster) Ewing was born on May 31, 1957 to Everett J. Balster and Helen (Dreiling) Balster in Wichita, KS. She was a 1976 graduate of Derby High School.

Brenda married Brad Kent Ewing on May 29, 1981 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Derby, KS.

Brenda's primary interest was always her family. She spent much of her time with Emily in 4-H and FFA and with Nick through cross country, wrestling and tri-athlons. She also spent several years as a PSR instructor for St. Anthony's Catholic Church. In addition, she helped her husband with Boy Scout Troop 304.

She is preceded in death by her father, Everett J. Balster.

She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Brad Ewing; her son, Nicholas Ewing; and her daughter, Emily Ewing, all of Wellington, KS; Emily's fiancé, Paul Lange of Conway Springs, KS; her mother, Helen Balster of Wellington, KS; three sisters, Tootie Caskey and her husband John and Julie Horsch and her husband Kent all of Haysville, KS, and Rane Case and her husband Brad of Wellington, KS; several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Rosary will be held at St. Anthony/St. Rose Catholic Church on Wednesday evening, March 2, 2011 at 7:00 P.M.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Anthony/St. Rose Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends that evening from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 from 9:00 – 5:00 P.M.

Memorials have been established with Hospice Care of Kansas, St. Anthony/St. Rose Catholic Church and the First United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
