Cassie A. Stearns, age 100, of Wellington, KS passed away Friday evening, September 24, 2010 at the Slate Creek Deseret Nursing Home. She was worked as a nurse aide for Wellington Hospital for more than 25 years.

Cassie was born October 7, 1909 in Kingman, KS to Perry and Victoria (Weber) Pepper.
She graduated from Spivey High School.

She married Charles B. Stearns on January 2, 1931 in Kingman, KS. They moved to Wellington from Harper in 1954. Cassie was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist.

Cassie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles in 1988; infant daughter, Beverly; one brother; four sisters; and two stepbrothers.

She is survived by two sons, Brent Sterns and his wife Mary of Wellington, KS and Roger Stearns and his wife Sandy of Lincoln, NE; three daughters, Lois Ferguson of Wichita, KS, Marcene Mitchell and her husband George of Hobert, NE and Charlene Johnson of Wichita, KS; 15 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the Frank Funeral Home in Wellington, KS. Pastor Keith Trumbo will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Duquoin Cemetery in Duquoin, KS.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, September 27, 2010 from 1:00-8:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the Slate Creek Deseret Nursing Home. Memorials can be left at the funeral home.
