Charles F. King, Sr., age 80, of Wellington, KS, passed away Friday, September 11, 2020 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 42 years as a General Foreman.
Charles was born on October 30, 1939 in Waynoka, OK to Ivan Elvan King and Lillie Mae (Freeman) King. He was raised in Waynoka and moved to Wellington in 1986.
He married Joyce Faye Rauch on June 6, 1959 in Waynoka, OK.
After marriage, he served his mechanical apprenticeship in Albuquerque, NM from 1957 to 1958. They returned to Waynoka, OK for a few years and moved to Cleburne, TX for a year and then back to Waynoka as General Foreman over the Mechanical Department. He was in charge of cleaning up derailments and working on engines. In 1986 he moved back to Wellington, KS over the Mechanical Department where he resided until his death on September 11, 2020.
He was a member of the Wellington Baptist Temple.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Chaz King; brother Elvin King; and sister, Rosemary Inman.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce King of Wellington, KS; son, Charles "Chuck" King II and his wife Michelle of Wellington, KS; Gayla Milledge and her husband Larry Milledge of Waynoka, OK, Lori Brown and her husband Rick Brown of Alva, OK, and Cathy King of Wellington, KS; nine grandchildren, Eric Milledge, Emily Smith-Dunn, Talem Garcia, William King, Orry King, Ian King, Rafferty Brown, Izabella King, and Caroline King; nine great grandchildren, Aspen Milledge, Wesley Milledge, Paris Smith-Dunn, Titan Smith-Dunn, Jaime Garcia, Yandel Garcia, Serenity Milledge, Apollo King, and Persephone King.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at the Wellington Baptist Temple. Pastor John Clayton will officiate.
Graveside Services will be held on Friday, September 18, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at the Waynoka Municipal Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
Frank Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
