Charlie Caudillo, age 85, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away at his home on Tuesday morning, May 6, 2008. He was a life long Wellington resident and retired as a carman with the Santa Fe Railroad after 43 years of service.
Charlie Caudillo was born on April 17, 1923 in Wellington, KS to Camilo R. Caudillo and Bartola Dolorez (Chavez) Caudillo.
He attended schools in Wellington and also served 23 years in the United States Army.
He married Carmen J. Gonzales on July 4, 1942 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Wellington, KS.
He was a member of St. Anthony's/St. Rose Parish, the American Legion and V.F.W.
He enjoyed taking his grandchildren to and from school, woodworking, and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Juan Caudillo, Sabino Caudillo, and Vincent Caudillo; and two sisters, Teresa Bonilla and Jesus Soria.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Carmen J. Caudillo of Wellington, KS; two sons, Fernando M. Caudillo and his wife Sue of Wellington, KS and Jaime A. Caudillo and his wife Stephanie of Santa Clarita, CA; four daughters, Beatriz S. Caudillo-Soria of Castro Valley, CA, Maria D. Brand-Barker and her husband Gary of Wellington, KS, Yolanda Wilkerson and her husband Jerry of Wellington, KS, and Celestina "Tunie" Caudillo-Sparman and her husband Rick of Wellington, KS; 20 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren.
A Vigil Service and Rosary will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. Father Andrew J. Seiler will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 8, 2008 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. and on Friday, May 9, 2008 from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.
Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and the Avenue of Flags. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
