Obituary

Charlotte "Roberta" Newell, age 87, passed away at Friendly Acres Assisted Living in Wellington, KS on Friday afternoon, October 24, 2008.

Charlotte "Roberta" Newell was born on February 4, 1921 in Rural Mayfield, KS to William J. and Flora May (Roberts) Heasty. She graduated from Wellington High School in 1939.

Roberta married Richard Newell on August 6, 1939 at the Union Chaple Church south of Mayfield, KS. They enjoyed 69 years of happiness together. She was a sales clerk for many years at Woolworth until it closed and at the Merchantile.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and was an avid cat lover. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Never Fail Club and Christian Women Fellowship.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Marion Heasty and her sister, Helen Deffenbaugh and great great granddaughter, Kiersten.

Survivors include her loving husband, Richard Newell of Wellington, her son, Jim Newell and his wife Donna of Wellington; her daughters, Beverly Haines of Wellington and Judith Sharon Lawrence of Branson, MO; nine grandchildren, Doug Kinyon & his wife Cindy of Belle Plaine, Darwin Kinyon and his wife Jill of Missoula, MT, Darren Kinyon and his wife Lisa of Wichita, Denise Brown and her husband Charles of Wellington, Greg Haines of Wellington, Ginger Adams and her husband Gary of Jacksonville, FL, Tim Lawrence and his wife Jennifer of Wichita, Celeste Rowland and her husband Chris of Jacksonville, FL and Tamra Hoenie and her husband Shane of Branson, MO; 24 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Christian Church. Pastor Don Bryant will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 27, 2008 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 7:00 – 8:30 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the Hospice Care of Kansas. Memorials can be mailed to or left at the funeral home.
