Claudine June Bartelson entered eternal life on Wednesday evening, October 11, 2017, leaving behind her mark on all who knew her.
Born on June 21, 1930 in Douglas, Kansas, she spent nearly all of her 87 years in Wellington, Kansas. On April 23, 1954 in Hobbs, NM, she married Oscar Lee "Swede" Bartelson. He preceded her in death in 1985, but the love she had for him burned bright even 32 years later.
She was a woman with a generous, giving heart, who never let a person leave her home without a full stomach and some candy for the road.
An avid collector of "treasures," she loved nothing more than a good auction, garage sale and flea market. She was known to rise at 5 a.m. to find the best deals at the garage sale and was always one of the first to arrive at an auction. Trips to the casino and local bingo parlors also brought her great delight, and on occasion, big winnings.
The proud mother of Wayne, Larry, Mike, and Susan, she spent hours playing cards and fishing alongside them, most enjoying herself when she caught the biggest fish or beat them at cards.
To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was the funniest person they knew, the wearer of big, sparkly accessories, and the best no-bake cookie maker in Sumner County. She showered them with love, support, and comfort and they adored their one-and-only Grandma Claudine.
To the men and women who assisted in caring for her during her final years, they too came to love and appreciate her clever quips and independent, feisty spirit. As many would say, "She's a hoot."
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville Wendell Kabureck and Florence Evelyn (Burger) Kabureck; her husband, Lee "Swede"; five brothers, Glenn, Floyd, Eugene, Alvie, and Leon Kabureck; five sisters, Evelyn Kabureck, Eva Smith, Loudell Baker, Helen Skibbe, and Beulah Logan.
Survivors include her four children, Wayne Bartelson of Dexter, KS, Larry Bartelson and his wife Tammy of Oxford, KS, Mike Bartelson and his wife Marcia of Mayfield, KS, and Susan Johnson and her husband Gary of Winfield, KS; 16 grandchildren: Wendy, Dawn, Amy, Scott, Chad, Shelly, Ross, Bryce, Malorie, Mitch, Jessica, Nic, Mary, Seth, Aaron and Zach; 24 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at the Oxford Christian Church in Oxford, KS on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. Pastor Danny Ginn will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with Rivercross Hospice and Botkin Care & Rehab in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
