Dale Edward Carter, age, 83, life long Wellington resident, passed from this life on March 25, 2008 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita, KS. Dale worked as an Engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad from 1946 – 1985, retiring after 38 years of service.

Dale Edward Carter was born on September 8, 1924 in Wellington, KS to Ondus and Marie (Shepherd) Carter. He was raised in Wellington and was a Wellington High School graduate with the Class of 1943.

He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II.

He married Betty McNair on April 24, 1945 at the First Baptist Church in Wellington, KS.

He loved fishing and sports and particularly enjoyed football, basketball and golf. He was a member of the United Transportation Union, the American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ervin "Boake" Carter.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Betty Carter of Wellington, KS; two sons, Stephen Carter and his wife Debbie of Amarillo, TX and Charles Carter and his wife Sharon of Olathe, KS; four grandchildren, Shanda, Matt, Penny, and Bree; and one great grandchild, Ainsley.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 28, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at Frank Funeral Home. Pastor D. L. Carter will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 27, 2008 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will greet friends from 7:00 – 8:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established in his name with the Wellington Food Bank. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
