Darrell Branning, Sr., age 76, Wellington resident since 1950, passed away at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita, KS on Thursday, September 13, 2007. He retired in 1994 from Plessey Welco Division after having worked there for 31 years and was also the former owner of the Chisholm Trail Drive-In Theater.

Darrell Branning was born on November 11, 1930 in Mulvane, KS to Elmer Branning and Viola Pearl (Monroe) Branning.

Darrell married Shirley Bradt on April 15, 1963 in Newton, KS. They had recently celebrated 44 years of marriage.

Darrell enjoyed his John Deere tractor, spending time with family and friends, and was also a sponsor of the 4-H Lamb Project.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Shirley Branning of Wellington, KS; four sons, Darrell Branning, Jr. of Seattle, WA, Terry Branning and his wife Pam of Wellington, KS, Kenny Branning and his wife Lori of Wellington, KS, and Ricky Branning of Midland, TX; two daughters, Diane Branning of Walton, KS and Sherry Wambolt of Tennessee; one brother, Warren Branning of Conway, MO; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 17, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church. Pastor Sallie Shore will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, September 16, 2007 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the LOGOS After School Program at the First Christian Church. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
