Obituary

Dennis William Kramer was born April 7, 1945 in Santa Rosa, California.  He was the son of Joseph and Mathilda (Prosser) Kramer. His father died in 1952 and Mathilda moved with her 3 young sons back to Barton County Kansas. Dennis attended school in Great Bend where he graduated high school in 1964.  He attended Hutchinson Community College in the ROTC program.

Dennis served in the Navy as a corpsman off the coast of Vietnam on the hospital ship U.S.S. Repose.

After his naval duty he attended Midland College in Fremont, NE then transferred to Wichita State University.  He received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

He worked in the animal health industry, selling Supersweet, and Wayne Feeds.  He later joined with other entrepreneurs to found BioVet, researchers, manufacturers and marketers of direct fed micro biotic and nutritional products for dairy, beef and other livestock.

Dennis was a very enthusiastic and prolific Indian artifact hunter and collector.  He also participated in pre-1840 rendezvous, competing in tomahawk and knife throwing.

He attained the level of Eagle Scout as a boy and was a scout leader as an adult.

In later years he moved to Winfield where he invested in rental properties and worked as Mr. Fixit doing home remodeling and repairs.  He also built decks and fences.  He was especially proud of how straight he could set posts in a fence line.

Dennis got the deal of a lifetime at an auction in Winfield.  He met Donna Heasty and they were married Aug 21, 2000 in Goodland KS.

He was a member of the American Legion. He was 2 nd Vice Commander at Post 10, Commander of District 3 and was elected Department Sgt of Arms in 2018 but suffered a stroke and was unable to serve in that capacity.

Dennis was proceeded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Donna; his son Jedediah (Sarah) of Arkansas City and 3 grandsons, Elijah, Charles and Malachi; 2 brothers, Tony (Bettie)  of St. Charles, MO and Joe (Sandy) of Pratt; nieces, Amy (Greg) Obenhaus, Kelly (Kent) Pettyjohn, Lindsey (Paul) Schoenecker and nephew, Lucas Kramer; extended family, Scott Pontious (Tina) of  Park City, JoDee Clarkson (David) of West Plains, MO, and Darcy Megaw of Destin, FL; and numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren,  all who call him Pappy.

A memorial service will be held at the Winfield Church of Christ, 1113 Country Club Road, Winfield, KS on Saturday, June 18, 2002 at 11:00 A.M.

In honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place.  There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Carpenter Place in Wichita.   The mission of Carpenter Place (formerly Maude Carpenter Children's Home) is to nurture deeply hurting girls to restored relationships with God, family and community.  Carpenter Place is 100% privately funded.  Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
