Obituary

Donald Gene Funderburk, age 93, lifelong Wellington area resident, passed away Tuesday morning, June 26, 2018 at the Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington, KS. He retired in 1987 as a car inspector for the Santa Fe Railroad after 40 years of service.

Donald Gene Funderburk was born on January 18, 1925 in Wellington, KS to John William Funderburk and Lorene (Hutcherson) Funderburk. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1942-1946 and during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953.

He married Treva May Whaley on March 6, 1947 in Wellington, KS. They celebrated 65 years of marriage before her passing on August 18, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Treva; and one sister Phyllis Dixon.

Survivors include one son, Scott Funderburk and his wife Ann of Wellington; one daughter, Dona Bower of Stillwater, OK; six grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Memorial Graveside Services will be held at the Prairie Lawn Cemetery on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. Jon Shellenberger will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #90.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.

A memorial has been established with the Avenue of Flags. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
