Donna L. Newell, age 85, lifelong Wellington resident, passed away April 12, 2022 at Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph ER in Wellington.  She had worked for 25 years as a utility clerk for the City of Wellington and retired in 2001.

Donna L. (Riege) Newell was born on October 5, 1936 in Wellington, KS to Clifford Riege and Erva (Hull) Riege.  She was a graduate of Wellington High School.

She married Jim D. Newell on February 22, 1975 at the First Christian Church in Wellington, KS.

After retirement she (Nana) enjoyed flower gardening and being out in the yard.  Donna loved babies and had a very special bond with them.  She particularly loved rocking them to sleep.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Roberta Young and Bonnie Riege; and one great granddaughter, Kiersten.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Newell of Wellington; three sons, Doug Kinyon and his wife Cindy of Belle Plaine, KS, Darwin Kinyon and his wife Jill of Missoula, MT, Darren Kinyon and his wife Lisa of Wichita, KS, and; one daughter, Denise Stinson and her husband Brian of Wellsville, KS; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Berryman, Malorie Kinyon, Kellie Castro, Jerrod Kinyon, Ryan Ricke, Jami Kinyon, LaDonna Frye, Tyler Rayl, Kayla Kinyon, Jessica Adams, Zachary Hess; 11 great grandchildren; and  one great great grandchild.

Visitation will be held at Frank Funeral Home on Friday, April 15, 2022 from 1:00 – 7:00 P.M.  The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.

A private family graveside service will be held at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the Wellington Humane Society and with the National Children's Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.  Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
