Obituary

Dorotha M. Simpson, age 92, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away Friday morning, July 26, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Wellington, KS.
Dorotha was a longtime Wellington resident, former business owner of Simpson's Liquor Store and Simpson's Beauty Salon, and later employed as a toll booth collector for the Kansas Turnpike Authority.

Dorotha M. (Knorp) Simpson was born on February 17, 1921 in Hazelton, KS to Claude C. Knorp and Lena L. (Fenton) Knorp. Dorotha was a Wellington High School graduate with the Class of 1939.

She married Floyd E. Simpson on May 5, 1940 at the First Christian Church parsonage in Wellington, KS. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1992.

Dorotha was a member of the First Christian Church and an officer in CWF, Den Mother of Cub Scout Pack #304, PTA President, Wellington Camping & Hiking Club, Auxiliary for the Santa Fe Railroad Employees, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, National Hairdresser's Association, and three Bridge Clubs. She enjoyed attending local dances with Floyd, hosting family dinners, traveling to see family and friends, sewing, and reading. Dorotha's lifelong interest in her children and their activities was very important to her. She provided them with many opportunities to develop themselves through piano, dancing and voice lessons.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd; an infant son, Preston; two brothers, Claude Knorp and Fred Knorp; and one sister, Mary Knorp.

Survivors include her three children, James Simpson of Wellington, Maxine Aron of Laramie, WY, and Delores DeMoss and her husband Richard of Pawhuska, OK; one brother, Kenneth Knorp of Sun City, AZ; four grandchildren, Seth Aron, Genevieve Steidtmann and her husband David, Julie Mendicino and her husband Mike, and Lori Reesing and her husband Brad; and six great grandchildren, Moriah and J. G. Mendicino, Easton, Laurel, and Trase Reesing, and Lauren Steidtmann; sister-in-law, Lois Kahle of Newkirk, OK; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, C. E. Simpson and his wife Maxine of Wellington; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at Frank Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. Chaplain Don Cross will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 29, 2013 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with Futures Unlimited. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
