Obituary

Dorothy Lucille Troutman, age 92, of Wellington, Kansas, passed peacefully into her heavenly home on December 22, 2018. She was born on July 5, 1926, to Clark and Dessie Bryant Nichols of Wellington, Kansas. Dorothy graduated from Wellington High School in 1944 and married Arlis L. Troutman on June 6, 1948.

Dorothy was a homemaker, but through the years she was also employed at Regent Theatre, Cooks Pharmacy, Avon sales, Montgomery Ward, Clarkson and Star Aircraft and Wellington Area Local Transport. Her husband owned a trucking company, and Dorothy would hop behind the wheel of a semi-truck when needed. They also ran Troutman Oil Company on Botkin Street where she often pumped gas.

She loved to tell folks that she was the original Dorothy from Kansas. She will be remembered for her love of music and dancing including her time as a part of the Paradise Swingers Square Dance Club and her faithful attendance and support of local dances even into her nineties. If music was playing, Dorothy's toes would start tapping. She was an avid fan of the Wellington Crusaders and enjoyed attending the sporting events and other activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love of family card games was legendary.

Other interests include travel which found her spending many winters in Yuma, Arizona, membership in Chisolm Trail Campers, and volunteering for Meals on Wheels. She was a member of First Christian Church of Wellington, American Legion, Wellington Chamber of Commerce, and the Parent Teacher Association.

Dorothy is survived by sons Ronald Troutman (Jam) and Monty Troutman (Carol) of Wellington, Kansas, daughter Connie McFarland (Steven) of Allen, Texas, and grandchildren Ronnie Troutman, Miller Troutman, Whitney Troutman Owens, Arlis Troutman, Jeremy Troutman, Joshua Troutman, Amy Troutman Olsen, Brian McFarland, Mark McFarland, Matthew McFarland and Amity Troutman-Simmons. She is remembered with love by her twenty-one great-grandchildren and a host of extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Arlis Troutman, son, Kris Troutman, siblings Ruby Burns, Marion Nichols, Cleo Harris Seimers, Dean Nichols and Jack Nichols and long-time companions Bill Critzer and Loue Farley.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Christian Church in Wellington, KS on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. Pastor James Byers will officiate. Interment will follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens.
