Edgar Eugene (Gene) Moody was born on January 17, 1930 in Pretty Prairie, KS and died on July 8, 2020 in Overland Park, Kansas.
He is survived by a sister, Earldeen Koon, Marshall, Missouri; five daughters: Iris Parker, (Jeff Parker) Carter Lake, Iowa, Billie Wescott, Overland Park, Kansas, Nancy Moody, (Michael Webster) Reno, Nevada, Kim Hand, Manchester, New Hampshire and Kara Allen, (David Allen) Lenexa, Kansas; five grandchildren, Mickael Healey, Ben Allen, Nate Allen, Cameron Hand, Brandon Hand; three great grand children; Sherman, AmberMarie and Bernice Healey.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Bonnie; parents, Earl and Clarice Moody; brother Ray Moody; sister-in-law Thelma; brother-in law Leroy Koon; and sister Virginia Morelini.
Gene will be remembered as an active member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was a volunteer at the Hutchinson Cosmosphere for over two decades. He was a volunteer with youth serving as a Boy Scout leader for 15 years. He also served in the following capacities: chaperone for youth activities, rocket launcher, tutor, camp leader and driver for cancer patients. In Des Moines, he was a volunteer at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. Gene was a great storyteller. He created images of a story while encouraging the listener's imagination. Each of us have a memory of one of his stories!
Gene worked for Southwestern Bell for 32 years. In 1972, he and his wife, Bonnie owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Wellington, Kansas for 17 years. During his life-time, he had the following jobs: telephone lineman, wheat harvest worker, bus driver, oil-field worker, and Kingman County laborer.
Graveside Services will be held at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington, KS on August 28, 2020 at 1:00 P.M.
A Memorial Service is scheduled at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 700 E. 25 th Avenue, Hutchinson, KS on August 29, 2020 at 10:30 A.M.
Frank Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
