Obituary

Effie "Maxine" McClure, age 98, passed away Wednesday morning, April 20, 2011 at her home for nearly a year, Cherished Friends in Wellington, KS. Maxine had worked as a Nurse's Aide at Cedar View Nursing Home; employee of Plessey, Midwest Division; Gibson's; Wal-Mart and later in years she was a daycare provider.

Effie Maxine (Riggs) McClure was born on October 18, 1912 in rural Conway Springs, KS to William W. and Mary M. (Hopkins) Riggs. She was a 1931 graduate of Conway Springs High School and attended one year of Business College in Wichita.

Maxine married Clifton McClure on October 27, 1940 in Conway Spring, KS. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1985. They farmed northeast of Mayfield, KS until 1973 before moving to Wellington, KS.

Maxine was a faithful member of First Christian Church where she was bestowed the honor of Deaconess Emeritus, member of Christian Women's Fellowship and 80-year member of Order of Eastern Star with current membership with Ninnescah Chapter #423 of Clearwater.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, sewing and cooking.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifton; five brothers, Ralph, Charlie, John, Glenn and Farris Riggs; and three sisters, Wilsie Schoeppel, Hazel Shouse and Luella Martin.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Davis and her husband Lonnie of Wellington, KS and Peggy Parker and her husband Scott of Wichita, KS; one son, Louie McClure and his wife Marie of Azle, Texas; seven grandchildren, Susan Ott, Les Davis, Brian McClure and his wife Allison, Sherra Galbraith and her husband Matt, Lisa McClure, James Parker and Mike Spencer; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Christian Church on, Monday, April 25, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. Pastor Don Bryant and Pastor Sallie Shore will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Osborne Cemetery in Mayfield, KS.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, April 24, 2011 from 1:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.

Memorials have been established with the First Christian Church and Hospice Care of Kansas in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
