Ellis Darwin McMillan, age 96 years and 10 months died Thursday morning, October 22, 2009 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington, KS.

Ellis Darwin McMillan was born on December 19, 1912 in rural Belle Plaine, KS to William C. and Amanda (Ellis) McMillan.

On July 22, 1934 he married Eunice Ash in Belle Plaine, KS at the Church of Christ parsonage.

Ellis spent most of his life on the family farm southwest of Belle Plaine before moving to Wellington in 1988. He worked for the Sumner County Road Maintenance Department for a number of years and also for Beech Aircraft in Wichita for several years. He was a long time member of the Belle Plaine Church of Christ and a member of the Church of Christ in Wellington at his death. Ellis will be remembered as a hard worker who never complained. He even built his family a lovely home. He served his community by serving on several boards through the years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Norman Dale McMillan.

Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Eunice McMillan of Wellington, KS; one son, Gary Leon McMillan of Guymon, OK; one daughter, Maurine Kay Deniston and her husband Larry of Albuquerque, NM; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Elda Mae Craven of Wellington, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at the Church of Christ on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. Mr. Gary Bodine will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Belle Plaine Cemetery in Belle Plaine, KS.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, October 25, 2009 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.

Memorials have been established with Carpenter Place in Wichita, KS and the Wellington Church of Christ in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
