Evelyn Eileen Landes, age 83, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away Sunday evening, November 18, 2007, at her home in Wellington, KS. Evelyn was a homemaker and a life long Sumner County resident and a Wellington resident since 1942 moving to Wellington from the family farm.

Evelyn Eileen (Wegand) Landes was born on September 2, 1924 in Wellington, KS to William Sherman Wegand and Alma H. (Withrow) Wegand. She was raised in Riverdale, KS on the family farm and attended country school there.

On May 19, 1947 Evelyn married Herbert Charles Landes. He preceded her in death on February 26, 1990.

Evelyn was a big fan of NASCAR. She particularly loved watching her favorite driver, Jeff Gordon. For Evelyn's 79th birthday her family took her to the race track in Kansas City where she got to put a suit and helmet on and go three laps around the track in a race car. It was a highlight of her life. Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. One of her biggest joys in life was making baked goods for her beloved grandson, Michael Spencer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Herbert C. Landes; a son, Byron Lee Landes who passed away in 1997; and one sister, Joy Rose.

Survivors include her son, Scott Landes of Medford, OR and daughter Marla Burroughs and her husband Charles of Winfield, KS; two step-sons, Gary Landes and his wife, Kathy of Madera, CA and Larry Landes and his wife Pat of Wake Village, TX; one step-daughter, Carole Walker and her husband Buddy of San Angelo, TX; 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Prairie Lawn Cemetery. Reverend Brent Clayton of the First United Methodist Church will officiate.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, November 23, 2007 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
