Evelyne Marie (Dyer) Reusser, age 106, passed away December 30, 2018, at her home in Wellington, KS with her children at her side. She was born to William Hamlin Dyer and Anna (Critzer) Dyer on June 3, 1912, in Sumner County just south of Clearwater, KS.

After graduating from Clearwater High School she attended Wesley School of Nursing, was president of her senior class, and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1934. In the same year Evelyne married Alton Reusser on March 11, a love affair that lasted 76 years.

Evelyne and Alton began their married life living on a farm south of Clearwater and later moved to rural Wellington where they raised their family and farmed for 48 years. Besides being a proud and dedicated farm wife, Evelyne pursued a rewarding nursing career working as a private duty nurse then as a Sumner County Public Health Nurse from 1956 retiring in 1974.

Evelyne was active as a 4-H leader teaching sewing and cooking as a member of her Home Demonstration Unit. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church active in her circle and later playing the piano for her Sunday school class.

After retirement she began studying her genealogy traveling to various states researching local records and verifying information on grave stones. Alton and her sister Helen were her travel companions. Evelyne enjoyed visiting and learning about people, and with Alton's help could recall friends, neighbors and events from the distant past. Cooking, sewing and reading were her favorite activities. She made bread, thousands of meals for the field, countless family dinners and was never without homemade cookies. As a seamstress she made wedding and prom dresses, pant suits, a leisure suit and kept us in beautiful lacey panties and slips for years.

Evelyne loved her family. Even at 106 she knew all of her grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alton; brothers, Audrey, Quentin, and Wendell Dyer; sister Helen Dyer; son-in-law Robert Childers.

Survivors include her children Marilyn Schalk, Judy London, David Reusser and wife Anne, all of Wellington and Marcia Childers of Arkansas City, KS; brother Dale Dyer of Blue Ridge, GA; grandchildren, James Page, Linda Dobson, William Page, Shelby London, Kelsey London, Elizabeth Caudillo, Caroline Reusser, Mark Stedry, Todd Stedry, Scott Stedry, Erin Boatman, James Childers and Amanda Shuler; 26 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Wellington, KS. Pastor Andy Hargrove will officiate. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. at the Clearwater Cemetery in Clearwater, KS.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M.

Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church and Good Shepherd Hospice in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
