Obituary

Fern B. Hobbs, age 94, lifelong Wellington resident, passed away Wednesday morning, December 17, 2014 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. She was a homemaker and also had worked for the school lunch program for many years.

Fern (Brown) Hobbs was born on April 4, 1920 in Wellington, KS to Edward B. Brown and Sarah Elizabeth Gruber. She was a graduate of Wellington High School with the Class of 1938.

Fern married David T. Hobbs on December 28, 1944 in Englewood, CA. He preceded her in death in 1994.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Chisholm Trail Campers Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Empress Chinchilla Breader's Association for over 40 years. Fern was a Girl Scout Leader and was also active with the Boy Scouts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David; four brothers, Max, Vernon, Kenneth, and Carol Brown; and one sister, Bernice Brown.

Survivors include her two children, Frank Hobbs and his wife Elizabeth and Karen Rowe and her husband Bruce all of Wellington; ten grandchildren, Stephanie Roush and her husband Chad, Libby Collings and her husband Craig, James Hobbs, John Hobbs, Amanda Hobbs, David Hobbs and fiancée Kaitlyn Jamerson, Joseph Hobbs, Charles Hobbs, Robert Hobbs and Nathan Rowe and fiancée Crystal Osborne; six great grandchildren, Sarah Roush, Emily Roush, Matthew Roush, Logan Rowe, Korra Rowe, and Owen Hobbs; sisters-in-law, Thelma Oldridge and Neola Heasty; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. Pastor Brent Clayton will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with First United Methodist Church and the Sumner Regional Medical Center Endowment Association in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
