Garnet Marie Downing, age 97, loving wife, mother, grandmother and long time Mayfield and Wellington resident, passed away Saturday morning, October 20, 2007 at Springview Manor in Conway Springs, KS. She retired in 1975 from the bakery at Dillons after 13 years of service.
Garnet Marie (Greaves) Downing was born on May 22, 1910 at Maize, KS to Fredrick Greaves and Amelia (Woodman) Greaves.
She married Harold Paul Downing on July 23, 1931 in Kingman, KS. He preceded her in death in February 1958.
Garnet loved to bake birthday cakes for her family and friends, play pincochle and spend time with her family. She was a member at the Mayfield Federated Church.
Garnet is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, infant daughter Terry Kay, two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include four daughters, Joyce Bowen, of Sitka, AK, Betty Segraves and her husband Dick of Mayfield, KS, Patsy DiMauro and her husband Paul of Princeton, TX and Verla DeJarnett and her husband Bob of Wellington, KS; one sister Thelma Gorgen of Wichita, KS; nine grandchildren, Suzan Bowen Gish and her husband Lonnie, Michael Bowen and his wife Rhonda, Rick Bowen and his wife Barbara, Debra Horsch and her husband Dane, Dawna Whaley, Terri DeJarnett and Tony, Randy Daniels and his wife Cindy, Shawn DeJarnett and his wife Kristan and Jeff DeJarnett and his wife Brigi tte; 21 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Mayfield Federated Church in Mayfield, KS on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at10:30 A.M. Interment will follow at Osborne Cemetery in Mayfield, KS. Pastor John Mikow will officiate.
Friends may sign the register book on Monday, October 22, 2007 from 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. and Tuesday, October 23, 2007 from 9:00 P.M. –5:00 P.M. The casket will remain closed.
Memorials have been established with Mayfield Federated Church and St. Jude Children's Hospital. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
