Obituary

Gary Allen Ferguson, 65 of Wellington, KS, retired engineer of 43 years for Santa Fe Railroad died early Saturday morning, November 4, 2006.

He was born on January 13, 1941 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma to Jason (Pat) and Neva (Furber) Ferguson. He resided in Wellington the past 62 years of his life, and was a graduate of Wellington High School with the class of 1959.

Gary enjoyed growing tomatoes, model railroading, collecting, grilling outdoors and boasting about the ribs he smoked. He was an avid sports fan, and faithfully followed the Boston Red Sox, the Oklahoma Sooners, and Wellington Crusader football. He was admittedly proud to be a third generation railroader, and loved all things railroad related.

He was a member of the American Legion, the BLET, UTU, and served four years in the US Air Force.

On April 17, 1981, he married Gail Teresa Reed. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 2006.

Survivors include his wife Gail of the home, his parents Pat and Neva Ferguson; his four children, daughter Jerri Sue Ferguson, son Tim Ferguson and his wife Renee, daughter Kristi Whaley and her husband Travis, all of Wellington, his son Steve Ferguson and his wife Janell, of Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren, Jordyn and Karly Ferguson, Chad, Ashlyn and Kelsey Whaley of Wellington, and Eva Ferguson of Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Jeff Ferguson and his wife Georgetta, of Wellington, and Bill Ferguson, of South Haven, KS; and many more beloved family members and dear friends.
