Gladys Jean Armstrong, age 104, passed away Sunday morning, October 21, 2012 at her home in Wellington, KS. She retired as co-owner of Gambrill Hardware Store.
Gladys Jean (Brown) Armstrong was born on March 9, 1908 in Oxford Township, Kansas to Robert Charles and Honora "Mabel" (Tate) Brown.
She married George Armstrong on September 26, 1931 in Anthony, KS.
Gladys enjoyed fishing and taking care of her garden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; grandson, Thomas Dwyer; great granddaughter, Jodi Nylander; son in law, Leo Dwyer; four brothers, Verne, Ronald, Charles and Les Brown; and three sisters, Margaret Evans, Mary Scott and Verna Middleton.
Survivors include one daughter, Doris Dwyer of Wellington, KS; one sister, LoRee Goodrum of Mayfield, KS; 4 grandchildren, Gladena Nylander and her husband Peter, Kathy Niblack, Michael Dwyer and his wife April and Tim Dwyer and his wife Tyra; 10 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.
Memorial Graveside Services will be held at Sumner Memorial Gardens in Wellington, KS on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. Chaplain Don Cross will officiate.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
A memorial has been established with the Wellington Food Bank in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
