Glenn C. Long, age 87, of Wichita, KS, passed away on November 11, 2010 at Via Christi –Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita, KS. He retired after 30 years as owner and operator of Long's Clothing Store in Salina, KS. After retirement he enjoyed working as a Wal-Mart Greeter for several years.
Glenn C. Long was born on January 25, 1923 in Grant County, OK to David Burton and Rosa Mae (Stigers) Long.
On May 25, 1946, he married Joyce Gallagher in Wellington, KS.
Glenn joined the United States Army Air Corps during WWII and was a tailgunner on a B24. During his service he received a purple heart. His crew was shot down over Hungary where they were detained. He was also a member of the Top of the World Club.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Director Staff of the Isis Shrine Temple in Salina, KS. He was also a member of the Lions, Optimist, Chamber of Commerce, Elks and VFW in Salina, KS.
He is preceded in death by his parents; infant son, David Glenn; two grandsons, Jeremy King and Ross Griffin; infant granddaughter, Catherine Long, three brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joyce of Wichita, KS; one son, Dennis Long and his wife Sue of Bennington, KS; three daughters, Glenna Weir and her husband John of Halstead, KS, Janna Long of Wichita, KS and Patricia Temple and her husband Chris of Bennington, KS; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at the Ray Avenue Baptist Church in Salina, KS on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor John Day will officiate.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation.
