Harriet Isabel Crittenden, age 82, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away in Wichita, KS at Via Christi Medical Center St. Francis on June 10, 2006. She had been a resident of Wellington since 1943 moving here from Oklahoma. Harriet worked as a nurse aide at St. Lukes Hospital and also as a food service worker for U.S.D. #353.
Harriet Isabel Crittenden was born on March 1, 1924 in Belva, OK to William A. and Evalena A. (Fields) Gasswint. She graduated from Fairview, OK High School and also attended one year of college in Alva, OK.
On March 16, 1947 she married Veryl Crittenden at the First Baptist Church in Wellington, KS. Veryl preceded her in death on July 7, 1997.
Harriet was a member of the First Baptist Church, TOPS #KS 667 of Wellington, and the Flint Hills KOPS Society.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Veryl; and two brothers Alphie and Fred Gasswint.
Survivors include two daughters, Trudy Hurst and her husband Leland of Arkansas City, KS and Martha Billey and her husband Gary of Wellington; two sons Donald Crittenden and his wife Jody of Derby, KS and Paul Crittenden of Wichita, KS; sister Evelyn DeYoe and her husband Pierre of Pratt, KS; sister-in-law Josie Gasswint of Colton, CA; brothers Stanley Gasswint and his wife Betty of Mesa, AZ and Willis Gasswint and his wife Carole of Tulsa, OK; brother-in-law Max Crittenden and his wife Bernie of Wellington, KS; sisters-in-law Bonita Mahannah and her husband Wes of Denton, TX, Donna Browning of Arlington, TX, and Marlene Parret and her husband Bill of Clearwater, KS; ten grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; ten great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church. The Reverend Thomas Thompson will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 7:00 - 9:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
