Howard Ellis Dixon, age 82, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away lateWednesday evening, July 30, 2008 at the Robert J. Dole V. A. Medical Center in Wichita, KS. He was the retired co-owner/operator of Dixon's Salvage in Wellington, KS for 33 years from 1963-1996.
Howard Ellis Dixon was born on February 18, 1926 in Wellington, KS to Raymond Harold Dixon and Gladys Aubrey (Johnson) Dixon.
He served in the United States Navy during WWII from 1943-1946.
Howard married Eva Gertrude (Judy) Whitaker on August 29, 1947 in Newport, KY. They were married for 47 years before she preceded him in death in June of 1996.
Howard was a past deacon and member of the Church of Christ in Wellington. He was very active in the church with the "We Care Ministries" and "Campaigns for Christ." He was also active with "Sojourn Ministries" which was a ministry that did home repairs for people in need.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Raymond Harold Dixon, Jr. and his sister, Vera Darlean Rynerson.
Survivors include his three sons, Steve Dixon and his partner Jill of Ponca City, OK, David Dixon and his wife Janice of Derby, KS, and Mike Dixon and his wife Becca of Wellington, KS; brother, Clarence Stokley Dixon of Borger, TX; sister, Eleanora May Turner of Richmond, IN; grandchildren, Haley Marie Malouf and her husband Dean, Stephanie Dixon, Arlan Dixon, Chenay L. Sloan and her husband Chad, Adam P. Dixon, Sara E. Dixon, Zachary Stover, Tyler Stover, Natalie Ervin and her husband Paul, Jessica Newman and her husband Joseph, Heather Heiman and her husband Frank, and Amber Lowe and her husband Jason; and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at the Wellington Church of Christ on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 1, 2008 from 5:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the Maude Carpenter Childrens Home. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
