Imogene Gertrude Nichols, age 86, passed away at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS early Monday morning, December 14, 2009. She was a homemaker and had been a resident of Wellington since 1954.

Imogene Gertrude (Johnson) Nichols was born on April 19, 1923 in Cushing, OK to Ira M. Johnson and Ida (Schneburger) Johnson.

On November 3, 1945 she married Dean A. Nichols in Oklahoma City, OK. He preceded her in death in 1973.

She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and also volunteering at the Mission Thrift Shop where she had made many friends through the years.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean; and a granddaughter, LaSha Nichols.

Survivors include her two sons, Lanny Nichols of Wellington, KS and Mike Nichols and his wife Taryn Nichols of Wellington, KS; three brothers, Mike Johnson of Dill City, OK, Jonny Johnson of Carter, OK, and Donald Johnson of Cordell, OK; two sisters, Donna Kilhoffer and Mildred Thionnet both of Dill City, OK; six grandchildren, Virginia Patee, Danielle Pattrick, Joshua Nichols, Audra May, Joel Nichols, and Terrence Nichols; and 11 great grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held on Friday afternoon, December 18, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Sumner Memorial Gardens in Wellington. Father Andrew E. Heiman will officiate.

A memorial has been established with the Mission Thrift Shop. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening, December 17, 2009 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
