Obituary

James Francis Karlin, age 81, of Wichita, KS, passed away on December 27, 2017 at Via Christi St. Francis Harry Hynes Hospice Unit in Wichita, KS. He worked for 41 years as an electrician for Derby Refining Company.

James Karlin was born on April 26, 1936 in Wellington, KS to Merle A. Karlin and Evelyn J. (Zoglmann) Karlin. He was raised in Wellington and was a Wellington High School graduate with the class of 1954.

James married his sweetheart, Jo Felkins on June 30, 1956 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Wellington, KS.

Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, boating, fishing, camping, and golfing. He was a dedicated Chiefs fan. Jim participated with the BAK, his last ride was 469 miles on his bicycle at the age of 76. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Parish in Wichita and the Knights of Columbus.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three daughters, Debra Karlin, Diane Karlin and Dee Boyer; one grandson, Jason Curry; one sister, Vivian Bell; and one brother, Donald Karlin;

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Jo of Wichita; one son, Dan Karlin of Wichita; two daughters, Denise Karlin of Wichita and Dana Sweetwood and her husband Greg of GA; four brothers, Bob Walterscheid and his wife Mary Kay of Wichita, Karl Karlin and his wife Rae of Borger, TX, Leo Karlin and his wife Delmarie of Winfield and John Karlin of OK; one sister, Virginia Edwards and her husband John of Ponca City, OK; seven grandchildren, Russ Gann, Charity Harris, Jeremy Karlin, Javona Flannery, Sean Bentz, Brandon Bentz and Jamie Bentz; and 19 great grandchildren.

Rosary will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Anthony - St. Rose Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony - St. Rose Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. Father Hung Pham will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 1:00 until 5:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with St. Joseph's Indian School in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
