Janice Marie Olivas, age 72, longtime Wellington resident, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023 at her home.

She was born on June 21, 1950 to Elmer C. Johnson and Patricia M. (Bludworth) Johnson in Sterling, CO. She was raised in Wellington and graduated from WHS with the Class of 1967.  She continued her education while raising her family by completing her bachelors and masters degrees.

She had a great love for family, extended family, and friends. She loved animals and enjoyed spending summer evenings at the swimming pool.

She was an active member of St. Rose and later St. Anthony Churches, Wichita Diocese Cursillo Movement, local Catholic prison ministry and statewide KAIROS prison ministry.

She married Oscar F. Olivas, Jr. in March of 1980. Together they celebrated almost 40 years of marriage before his passing on December 21, 2019.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jim Johnson.

She is survived by three sons, Timothy Olivas of Wellington, KS, Alex Olivas and Manuel Olivas of Colorado Springs, CO; step-daughter, Kelli McGuire and her husband Kenny of Wright, Wyoming; brother-in-law, Roger Olivas and his wife Tina of Wellington, KS; three grandchildren, Kenna McGuire, Keyanna McGuire and Jaxston Short; great grandchildren, Luxee and Axle McGuire; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 1:00 – 7:00 P.M.

Rosary will be held at St. Anthony/St. Rose Catholic Church in Wellington, KS on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 9:30 A.M. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M.  Father Mike Maybrier will officiate. Immediately following the funeral mass there will be a come and go Celebration of Life at the Parish Hall.

Memorials have been established with the Wellington Recreation Commission/Water Aerobics and the Wellington Humane Society.  Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
