Janis Ruth Scott, age 86, lifelong Wellington resident, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 19, 2021 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. Through the years Janis worked as a secretary for the Sumner County Sheriff's Office and Oxwell, Inc.

Janis Ruth (Harrell) Scott was born on February 17, 1934 in Wellington, KS to Otho Allen Harrell and Lorene R. (Mosby) Harrell. She attended Wellington schools and was a 1952 graduate of Wellington High School.

Janis married Robert D. Scott on August 11, 1961 in Argonia, KS. He preceded her in death on September 13, 1999.

She enjoyed reading, landscaping, gardening and never met a rock she didn't like. She was an avid lover of animals, especially cats and dogs. She often helped financially with animal rescues.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; son, Shawn Scott; daughter, Lorrie Gee; and sister, Jacquelyn Gettings.

Survivors include her daughter, Robin Metz and her husband Moran of Oxford, KS; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; niece, Gina Maggard; and dear friends, Steve and Wendy Tuck and family and Karen Jones.

In keeping with Janis' wishes, there will be a celebration of life at a later date.

A memorial has been established with the Wellington Humane Society in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
