Jerry Taylor McGillicuddy, age 74, lifelong Wellington resident, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at his home in Wellington, KS. He worked as a brakeman/conductor for the BNSF Railroad for 46 years before he retired in 1999.
Jerry Taylor McGillicuddy was born July 14, 1934 to Joseph Bernard and Cherrie "Evon" (Taylor) McGillicuddy in Wellington, KS. He attended schools in Wellington and graduated with the WHS Class of 1952. He served in the United States Navy from March 10, 1954 through January 9, 1958.
Jerry Taylor McGillicuddy married Gladys "Babe" Marie Seal on April 27, 1957 at USNAS Miramar, CA.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing golf, sports, and fishing with Jack. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Elks Club, American Legion and Wellington Golf Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Julliette Ann McGillicuddy and Shirley Jo (McGillicuddy) Metivier.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Babe McGillicuddy of Wellington, KS; two sons, John Mitchell McGillicuddy and his wife Ann of Prairie Village, KS and Justin Michael McGillicuddy and his wife Jodi of Shawnee, KS; three daughters, Jeri Terese McGillicuddy of Kansas City, MO, Angela Lynn Baldner and her husband Chris of Atlanta, GA and Julia Marie Gordon-Stratton and her husband Todd of Nashville, TN; one brother, John Patrick McGillicuddy of Inola, OK, 11 grandchildren, Tyler Patrick Gordon, Maggie Ann Gordon, Ben Rosas, Megan Elizabeth McGillicuddy, Jacob Taylor McGillicuddy, Matthew Christopher Baldner, Thomas Kenyon McGillicuddy, Nicholas Andrew Baldner, Sierra Drake, Andrew Keller Stratton, Brynn Arden McGillicuddy and two great grandchildren, Damian Matthew Rosas and Ava Marie Gordon Rosas.
A Vigil Service will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. both at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Father Andrew E. Heiman will officiate. The family will greet friends at the school hall after Mass. There will be a private family interment.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. and Thursday, February 26, 2009 from 9:00 – 5:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the Wellington Food Bank in lieu of flowers. Memorials can be left at the funeral home.
