Joe Dean Goodson, age 66, passed away at his home in South Haven, KS on Tuesday, December 26, 2006. Joe had been a resident of South Haven since 1974 and was a retired brakeman with the Santa Fe Railroad.

Joe Dean Goodson was born on November 17, 1940 in Ponca City, OK to Chester Newton Goodson and Edith (Bare) Goodson. On July 16, 1979 he married Opal A. Blakesley in Altus, OK. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2005.

Joe is preceded in death by his father, his wife Opal, two brothers Chester and Mike Goodson, great grandson Zackary Hollis, and brother-in-law Robert Manning.

Survivors include his mother Edith Ezzell of Cement, OK; two sons Richard Joe Goodson and his wife Jalena of Prague, OK and Loren Joe Kilmer, Jr. and his wife Michelle of South Haven, KS; son-in-law Dewey Engro of Pensacola, FL; four daughters Johanna Sue Engro and Michael Combs of South Haven, KS, Kimerlee Ann Hess and her husband Terry of Overland Park, KS, Joyce Diane Hill and her husband Travis of Archer City, TX, and Anjennett Lea Valyer and DelRoy Spoon of Winfield, KS; three sisters Madeline Smith and her husband Carl of Roseburg, OR, Earline Manning of Urich, MO, and Pauline Smith and her husband Bob of Cement, OK; 18 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at the South Haven Christian Church on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. Interment will follow the service at Goodel Cemetery in Drury, KS.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, December 29, 2006 from 5:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the American Lund Association in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be mailed to or left at the funeral home.
