John "Richard" Harris, age 82, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 30, 2011 at his home in Wellington, KS. He was a sheet metal worker for Hawker Beechcraft retiring in 1991.

John Richard Harris was born on December 13, 1928 in Slaton, TX to Verner George Harris and Gladys May (Davis) Harris. He and his family moved to Wellington in 1929 from Texas and has been a Wellington resident since that time. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953.

He married Carol L. Rowe on August 15, 1982. She preceded him in death on March 28, 2000.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, his dog, Rosie, camping, fishing, gardening, cooking, and building model ships. He was a member of the First Christian Church, the American Legion and the VFW.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol; two grandchildren, Jason Kelly Liester and Jeremy K. Harris.

Survivors include his daughter, Diane Harris and her husband Carl of Wellington; sister, Mildred Thomas of Wellington; granddaughter, Lindsey Daugherty and her husband Pat of Wellington; three great grandchildren, Blair, Parker, and Chantz Daugherty of Wellington; niece, Glenda Erwin and her husband Phil of Wellington; one great niece and one great nephew.

Graveside Services will be held at Prairie Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. Pastor Don Bryant will officiate.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the Wellington Humane Society. Contributions can be left at the funeral home
