John Calvin Moore, Jr., age 89, lifelong resident of Wellington, KS, passed away early Monday morning, February 27, 2017 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. John was a retired conductor with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad where he enjoyed working for 53 years.
John was born on April 1, 1927 in Wellington, KS to John C. Moore, Sr. and Alice (Shaffer) Moore. He served in the United States Navy during WWII from July 30, 1943 – February 14, 1946.
John and Sandy were married on December 31, 1994 in Las Vegas, NV.
He was a hard working man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, shooting craps, blackjack, fishing and boating, telling jokes and stories, KU basketball, Kansas City Chiefs, and coloring. John was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W., and the U.T.U. His favorite part of the day was 5:00.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Christie Moore; and two sisters, Evelyn Bailey and Wanda Filer.
Survivors include his wife of Sandy Moore of Wellington, KS; son Doug Moore and his wife Jan of Emporia, KS; daughters, Julie Langton and her husband Gary of Wichita, KS; Sanetha Lansden and her husband Steve of Wellington, KS and Susan Boekhoff and her husband Lynn of Eagle Rock, MO; sister, Irene Kolman of Wellington, KS; six grandchildren, Heather Wilson, Treavor Smith, Niki Rheuport, Layne Moore, Sharon Doornbos, and Eric Lansden; and 14 great grandchildren, Ashton and Brendon Smith, Will and Cal Wilson, Jack, Morgan, Miranda, Max Rheuport, Levi, Cade, Lucas, and Cora Doornbos, Peyton and Evan Lansden; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
Memorial Services will be held at Frank Funeral Home on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Dan Floyd will officiate. Military Graveside Services will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.
A Memorial has been established with the Avenue of Flags in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
