John Russell "Rusty" DeJarnett, Jr., age 67, passed away at Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas on December 18, 2022. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in construction for the majority of his life, incredibly skilled in his craft.

"Rusty" was born on March 8, 1955 in Wellington, KS to John Russell DeJarnett and Marcella V. (Simon) DeJarnett.  He was raised in Wellington. Rusty served in the United States Army from 1973-1976.

Rusty was a gregarious man, with many friends made throughout the years. He masked his kind heart with a gruff exterior. Those who knew him, knew him well. He proudly passed his bold spirit and orneriness to his daughters, held his son, Jason close to his heart, loved his siblings fiercely and honored the mother he adored the best he could.

Survivors include his two daughters, Christina Glenn and her husband Troy of Duncan, OK ; Jessica Mashburn and her husband Shane of Sanford, NC; son Jason Hatmaker of Tucson Az and; his mother, Marcella Kelly of Wellington, KS; one brother, Anthony DeJarnett and wife Terri of Quinlan TX; two sisters, Rebena Townsend and Hal and Jana Hillary all of Wellington, KS; six grandchildren, Catherine Haggerty, Trenton Harris, Daniel Haggerty, Dylan Lowe, Daymon Haggerty, and Tyler Lowe. They've given him six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Cremation has taken place. There are no services scheduled at this time.
