Lavola G. Thompson, age 87, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 7, 2011 at her home in Wellington. Lavola had been a Wellington resident for the past 31 years moving here from California. She was a seamstress and a homemaker.
Lavola G. (Hudson) Thompson was born on June 19, 1923 in Blountsville, AL to Bay Hudson and Ruth (Chandler) Hudson.
Lavola married Adrian Joe Thompson on November 28, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1981.
Lavola was a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed gospel music, church choir, Bible studies, and teaching. She also loved square dancing, gardening, oil painting, and puzzles.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adrian Thompson, daughter, Adriene Thompson, mother & father-in-law, Victor Thompson and Wilma Thompson; son-in-law, Jerry Norris; one sister, Leola Hudson Jones, two brothers, Billy Fred Hudson and Thurlow Hudson; one sister-in-law, Koy-Jean Thompson-Daley; and several infant brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her daughter, Joanie Norris of Wellington; two granddaughters, Aleen and Mark Mathies of Lenexa, KS and Amy and Jeff McLain of Wellington; eight great grandchildren, Kiley Haskin-McLain, Shelby McLain, and Jason McLain of Wellington; Delaney Mathies, Kayla Mathies, Mack Mathies of Lenexa, KS; Zach Mathies and Hannah Mathies of Manhattan, KS; two sisters, Betty Scalf of Oceanside, CA and Opal and Bill White of Huntsville, AL.
Funeral Services will be held at the First Baptist Church on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. Reverend Tom Thompson and Pastor Blake Orr will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 9, 2011 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
