Lela Ruth Higgins, age 85, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Riverview Manor in Oxford, KS. Lela was a homemaker and had been a resident of Wellington most of her adult life.
Lela Ruth (Mayes) Higgins was born on February 15, 1926 in Kenbro, KS to Alan Mayes and Emma (Mitchell) Mayes.
Lela married Charles E. Higgins on July 26, 1943 in Newkirk, OK. He preceded her
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Hugh Higgins and his wife Linda of Wellington, Joe Higgins of Wellington, and Charles Higgins of South Haven; four daughters, Ramona Cooley of Washington State, Donna Jean of Nevada, Charlene Green of West Tawakoni, TX, and Katharine Myers and her husband Charles of Wichita; three sisters, Emma Jane Harrison, Dorothy Booth, and Nellie Mayes; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at Prairie Lawn Cemetery. Pastor Earl Brown will officiate.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Care of Kansas in lieu of flowers. Memorials can be left at the funeral home.
