Leota Lucy Carothers, age 91, of Wellington, KS passed away early Wednesday morning, May 25, 2011 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington.
Leota was born September 22, 1919 in Mullinville, KS. Her parents were Andrew James and Mary Emma Scott. She attended grade school in Mullinville before moving to Kinsley in 1928. She attended 4th grade in three schools because of family moves. She attended 5th grade through graduation in Kinsley. She graduated from Kinsley High School in 1937.
Leota married Earl E. Carothers of Kinsley on August 16, 1937 in the Assembly of God Church at Alma, CO. To this union were born one daughter and three sons.
Leota is preceded in death by her husband, Earl, in 1966; her daughter, Janet, in 1965; her son, Melvin, in 2010; and an infant son in 1943. She was also preceded in death by her parents and an older brother, Hubert Scott.
Survivors include her son Kenneth Glen Carothers and his wife Shari of South Haven; four grandsons, Brian Allen Paden and his wife Diane of Yulee, FL, Joel Ray Paden and his wife Connie of Telford, TN, Gregory Alan Carothers of South Haven, and Steven Glen Carothers and his wife Davette of League City, TX; seven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the First Assembly of God Church in Wellington, KS.
Graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Trotter Cemetery near Kinsley, KS.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 27, 2011 from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Memorials have been established with the Assembly of God Church in Wellington and Futures Unlimited. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
