Obituary

Leslie L. Thompson, age 98, of Wellington, KS passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021 at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita, KS.  He served on the Wellington Police Department from 1951-1973 and retired as Assistant Chief.

Leslie was born on September 4, 1922 in Rome, KS to Jacob M. Thompson and Ollie Fay (Jones) Thompson.  He served during WWII from 1942-1945 in United States Army Medical Corp.

He married Eva Pearl Easley in Yuma, CA.  She preceded him in death in 1997.

Les was a life member of the V.F.W. Post #6957 in Haysville, KS for over 75 years and held several local and state positions.  He was an original organizer of the Avenue of Flags, a volunteer of the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, KS and the V.A. Hospital in Wichita, KS, a member of the Honor Guard, Firing Squad, and a former City Council member.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pearl; son, Robert Thompson; granddaughter, Leslie (Thompson) Gunnels; great grandson, Jamie Fontes; great great granddaughter, Esme McGowan; eight brothers; and seven sisters.

Survivors include his four children, Jim Thompson and his wife Diana of Wellington, FL, Margie McGowan of Wellington, KS, Ray Thompson and his wife Linda of Holt, MO, and Marc Thompson and his wife Denice of Ft. Collins, CO; three sisters, Freda Hanson of Wellington, KS, Hazel Young of Meridian, ID, and Faye Teter of Augusta, KS; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Curtis Thompson for all his care, patience and love.

Military Graveside Services will be held at Prairie Lawn Cemetery on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 10:00 A.M.   A Celebration of Life will be held at Slate Creek Lodge following the burial.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.

A memorial has been established with the Kansas Veterans Home in lieu of flowers.  Contributions can be left at the funeral home.

Frank Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
