Linda Lou Jackson Nichols, age 66, passed away July 8, 2009 in Cornville, AZ.
Linda Lou (Jackson) Nichols was born on September 1, 1942 in Wellington, KS to Julian and Thelma (Lauterbach) Jackson. She grew up on the family farm south of Mayfield, KS and attended the Mayfield School. She was a member of the Mayfield Federated Church and the Red Wing 4-H Club. She was a 1960 graduate of Wellington High School.
In July of 1960 she married her High School sweetheart, John Nichols. As a Navy wife, she moved to California where her children were born. After John retired from the Navy, he took a job with a computer company that moved them to Salt Lake City, Utah. Linda was an animal lover and once fought the city government to keep a pet ferret, among her other menagerie of cats, dogs, ducks, etc. She won the fight and the ferret lived to a ripe old age.
John's job then moved them to Seattle, Washington where she raised grandchildren, ducks, and dogs. After John's retirement they moved to Cornville, AZ where she had been active in greyhound rescue.
Survivors include her husband, John Nichols of Cornville, AZ; two children, Charles Steven Nichols of Seattle WA and Terry Lynn Mielke of Cornville, AZ; sisters, Anne Gunderson, Marlene Bedwell, and Helen Karlsen; one bother, John R. Jackson; and five grandchildren, Sean, Thomas, and Robin Nichols and Zachary and Quinn Mielke.
A memorial graveside service will be held for Linda on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 9:30 A.M. at the Osborne Cemetery in Mayfield, KS. Pastor Frank Defisher will officiate.
Memorials have been established with Spinal Cord Research and Greyhound Rescue.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
